I Went Viral For Almost Destroying My Deck At A BBQ

The video's been taken down, but boy were we famous for a second.

This is what happened.

The weather was finally getting nicer. The weekends were in the mid-70s, sunny, and beautiful, it was perfect weather.

So we decided to have a cookout to officially kick off summer. All of our friends and family were invited, it was going to be a good time!

We're known for throwing great get-togethers. My husband and I love hosting and having everyone over. It makes our house full, and as cheesy as it sounds, I don't care, it makes our lives full. Being surrounded by friends and family... It's wonderful.

Back To the BBQ.

The cookout was in full swing, my husband was cooking burgers and BBQ chicken on the grill, people were playing cornhole and horseshoes in the yard, and everyone was having a great time.

That was until my husband franticly ran over with the huge platter of food, and practically dropped it on the table. He was in a full-blown panic and shouted "The deck's on fire", while he did a complete 180 and sprinted into the house.

We could see flames coming off of the grill, like 3 feet in the air, and it looked like the flower box and the railing were on fire too!

I Started To Panic.

Everyone started to panic. But of course, the kids pulled out their phones.

Within just a few seconds my husband came running back outside with what I thought was the blanket off the couch...

He threw it on the grill, basically covering the whole thing, and within a few seconds, the fire was out. Then he threw it on the flower box and the railing and that went out pretty quick too.

After having a mini heart attack thinking the deck and then the house was going to burn down, we were all pretty relieved that it was over.

I asked my husband what happened and he said, he didn't know.

He said that grease must've just dropped onto the burners and caught fire. The whole grill erupted and that must've caught the plants in the planter box that was hanging off the rail on fire too. The plants inside it were dead and dried out, which is probably why it caught fire so fast...

Then one of my husband's friends told him, he's lucky that blanket didn't catch on fire.

Again, all of us thought it was a throw blanket off the couch, but I totally forgot

It was a fire blanket he purchased a while back.

My husband told him it's made specifically for putting out fires.

He said it can put out all sorts of fires and as long as it isn't damaged it can be used again and again.

Right there on the spot, some of our friends went right on their phones and bought one too.

I guess it was a pretty good sales demonstration.

But that was that.

We got back to the cookout and it was a great day.

But Then The Video Was Uploaded Online And I Was Tagged In It

My nephew was the one who uploaded it. I could've killed him...

Because the video started getting shared by people I had never met before. I had no idea who they were. That's when the comments came in.

"Why would you put your grill so close to a planter"

"Fire and flowers don't mix"

"That was so foolish of you!"

Etc.

I couldn't let it go and I replied to as many people as I could.

And to clear it up here since I know you have the same question, the grill was placed where it was because we needed more room for everyone to sit and eat.

By putting the grill where we did, we were able to add another table and more seating to the deck. The planter was far enough away that it's never caused a problem before, and we've had grill flare-ups in the same place, with no issues.

That just goes to show you how big this fire got this time.

Anyway along with those comments a lot of people, and I mean A LOT, kept asking what that blanket was that my husband used.

I replied to as many people as I could because I knew if that blanket could help us it could help others.

But it got to be overwhelming, the comments and messages kept coming in, the notifications were getting to be very annoying and I was done.

I Asked My Nephew To Take The Video Down Because It Was Too Much.

And he did.

It was nice of him to do that for me.

But I couldn't help but wonder how many more people needed to know about that blanket. Especially, because I know first-hand how much it can help if there's a fire.

Which is why I'm telling you my story.

I'm telling you this because I want to help as many people as I can. There was a chance things could've gone very bad during that cookout. And the reason why it didn't was that blanket.

It helped me and I know it can help you too. After all, a lot of houses burn down because fires start and the residents have no way of putting it out. No fire extinguisher, nothing.

So if I can help just one person… Taking the time to write a whole blog post to tell my story is worth it.

The blanket my husband used is called the Hero Fire Blanket and it's made by a company called Prepared Hero.

This fire blanket can be used wherever a fire can happen: your grill, your kitchen, garage, boat, RV, car, campground, etc.

It can withstand incredibly hot temperatures of over 1000 degrees and it's reusable as long as the blanket isn't damaged.

It's also extremely easy to use. You just pull it out of the pouch and toss it on a fire.

That's it. It's so easy that kids and grandparents can use it.

So do yourself a favor and get one of these.

It's grilling season so flare-ups are bound to happen. You wouldn't want your house to catch fire or have anyone getting hurt...
